COLORADO UPLAND HUNTS

At Gunnison River Expeditions we offer a World Class caliber Colorado upland bird hunting adventure along the hills of the Gunnison River. What makes this trip so unique is that we start off with a float trip down the river trout fishing for brown trout and rainbow trout which is an adventure in itself. Along the way we will stop intermittently to get the dogs out and take a hike up into the hills to hunt the wild coveys of Quail and Hungarian partridge. This is such scenic and unique outdoor adventure that we encourage groups of 2 to 4 hunters to join us for more than 1 day although these are set up as day trips. We seat 2 hunters per boat and can accommodate several boats as needed. We supply everything needed along with up to 3 professionally trained pointers to assist on the hunt as needed.

A TYPICAL DAY:

On a typical day we can either have our hunters stay overnight at our lodge located within a short drive to the river or they can meet us at a pre-set meeting point early that day. Since these are set up as “Day Trips” we will launch the rafts from a pr-set launching point with all the gear needed and lunch for the day. As we wind down the river fishing for rainbows and browies, if we spot a quail along the river we can float past and hunt back up the river or if we feel like getting out and taking a hike at any point we can sure do so. We also will have opportunity at Hungarian partridge as well throughout the day. After a shore lunch we are back in the rafts and on our way for the afternoon. After the trip is over your group will have the choice of coming back for another day, doing a preserve style hunt for pheasants or heading on your way with a most memorable experience!

In addition to our amazing Colorado upland / fishing expeditions early in the season, come October – December we also offer a World Class caliber waterfowl / fishing combo Cast N Blast Combo. On this expedition we offer a very similar set up on for the river trout fishing however we are hunting a different section of the Gunnision River and are targeting Canada geese and puddle ducks. This has proven to be a very popular river trip and we do have the option of a daily hunt and a multiple day hunt while camping out on the river- your choice!
