Our Maryland sea duck hunting takes place on the Chesapeake Bay. Our sea duck guides hunt the western and eastern shore for sea ducks. The guides use “Big Rig” long line sets to bring in the birds. This is fast shooting action for Scoters and Old Squaw “Long Tail” ducks. Buffle Heads, Blue Bills and other divers are also on the menu. Canvasbacks and Blue Bills- The F-18's of ducks. Black Duck Outfitters diver duck guides again use traditional Maryland “BIG RIG” long line decoy sets to bring in the ducks. Our hunts are on the fresh water tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay. This is a time honored Maryland waterfowl hunt! Just like it has been done for over 100 years in some of the same waters that very famous decoy carvers used to hunt!

Maryland Sea Duck Hunting
Black Duck Outfitters Maryland Sea Duck hunts are in the famous Chesapeake Bay. We will be hunting from either 19-24 foot custom duck boats or out of layout boats. The types of sea ducks and diver ducks that we will be hunting are: Surf Scoters, Common Scoters, White Wing Scoters, Long tail “old squaw”, Buffle heads and Blue Bills. The action is fast as the ducks are moving up and down the bay just inches above the water! Your Maryland sea duck hunting guides will be using” long line rigs” with LOTS of sea duck decoys. We are shooting DECOYING birds- Not 50 yard shots at passing flocks. Bring lots of shells, sea duck hunting will test your shooting skills

A Typical Day:
On both our Maryland sea duck hunts or Diver Duck hunts, the guides will meet your party either at the ramp or close to it. We will start around 5-6am and will hunt till noon. Big long line rigs and lots of fast moving birds will be what you can expect on these hunts. We hunt out of custom duck boats that can hunt up to 6 hunters VERY comfortably. All of our Maryland duck hunting guides are 100% licensed USCG captains. They know the bay and know when it is safe or not. Conditions can change FAST on the water. Your duck hunting guides will keep an eye out on the weather while you hunt the ducks. Fast Birds and the boat moving up and down with the waves equals a fun time!!

Traditional Maryland diver duck hunting for Canvasbacks and Bluebills! Black Duck Outfitters diver duck hunting guides will take you out in our custom duck boats or layout boats for a morning of fast action diver duck shooting. The season for divers is November – January each year. We recommend hunting in December and January. We will be hunting the lower Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay. You will be duck hunting some of the same waters that very famous decoy carvers hunted for years!! The guides will be using large “LONG LINE” decoy rigs just like how it has been done for generations. Black Duck Outfitters equipment is “state of the art” but the method has been handed down by generations of Maryland duck hunting guides!

For our Maryland sea duck hunting and diver hunting, we refer our hunters to the La Qunita in Waldorf, Maryland- 301-645-0022. For our Sea duck only guided duck hunts, we refer our hunters to The Chesapeake Beach Resort- 866-312-5596. For our Upper River and goose hunts we use The Quality Inn-Frederick 301-695-0281 or Comfort Inn-Frederick 301-662-0281. Meals are provided for by local restaurants and we have several “hot spots” for our hunters to enjoy a delicious meal after the hunt.
About The Outfitter:
My name is Scott Barmby and I Like To Hunt Waterfowl! Deer hunting is what got me into all this. I was a huge deer hunter until I had a friend in the mid 80's ask me if I wanted to go to the Eastern Shore of Maryland for some duck and goose hunting. I looked at him and said "Why would you want to shoot ducks and geese?" I had a 12 gauge that I used for hunting some farms in Virginia that were buck shot only, so I said yes I would go. We got into a nice hedge row blind and it started to snow.
Then the geese came. They did it "feet down" twenty yards in front of the blind! I shot one and said "that is cool." What got me hooked was when we called in two double tail greenheads that I shot. So it started!! I had to have a boat, decoys, dog and more shotguns! Well 20k later I was a duck hunter!! Little did I know!
Black Duck Outfitters was started in the late 90's when my wife said "you or all that stuff has got to go." I had 5 labs, 3 boats and hundreds of decoys! So I started guiding to try and justify all the $$ I had spent. Black Duck Outfitters now services 4 states & Canada, 7 months a year. I love waterfowl hunting!
