Welcome To HuntTheNorth.com's Minnesota Waterfowl Hunting Section |
|
| At HuntTheNorth.com we have been actively researching many of the top hunting guides and outfitters across the country since 2003. We have then hand picked a very select few of what we feel are “Quality Outfitters” in each state to endorse through our service. We have endorsed one specific outfitter in Minnesota for the waterfowl hunting season. Below is a detailed listing on the outfitter of our choice for you to review and contact. Enjoy reading why we have decided to endorse the following Minnesota waterfowl hunting outfitter. Sincerely,
Dan Wennerlind President HuntTheNorth.com |

HUNTTHENORTH.COM OUTFITTER REVIEW
For the month of November we joined Phil Schmidt of Goose Busters Guide Service on a fantastic Canada goose / Mallard Combo Hunt about 45 minutes northwest of the Twin Cities in Minnesota. Talk about action packed! We had a full limit of Canada geese in hand with several bonus mallards before they stopped servicing breakfast at the local restaurant. Be sure to read all about it!

| About The Outfitter: Phil Schmidt began waterfowling when he was just 12 years old. Since then it has become his #1 passion in life. His decoy and call collection grew rapidly. At an early age he learned how important scouting and managing the few places he had to hunt was and the role it had in producing quality hunts. This knowledge remains central to GooseBusters philosophy. Through the years he developed stronger relationships with the area landowners, and as a result more and more hunting property became available to him. In 2003, |
at the young age of 23, Phil decided to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a guide and began offering quality hunts to the public. Since then Phil Schmidt's GooseBusters Guide Service has grown beyond his expectations. He now covers a three county area in the West Metro and spends more than 60 days in the field each fall with a very large and loyal clientele base.
“One of my main drives every year is knowing that I'll get to meet and hunt with new people each fall. I look forward to hearing from you so we can line up your hunt”- Phil Scmidt |

Our Philosophy: One word describes our philosophy: QUALITY. Quality in that there will only be six hunters in the field on your hunt, including the guides. Quality in that we don't hunt the same fields day in and day out, every hunt is a new adventure in a new setting. We scout daily and manage the properties available to us to provide the best hunts possible. All of this has resulted in our consistent success throughout the years and is evident in the photographs on our website. When you book a hunt with us you can be confident we'll be where the birds are; whether it be crop fields, potholes or bigger water. Since 2003 we average 62 hunts per season and only average four zero days per season. Our slowest season was in 2005 with only six zero days for 58 hunts and our best season had only one zero day for 67 hunts in 2007. We also offer variety. Every fall we harvest Canada geese of all sizes, ranging from 2 pounds to 15 pounds. Our main goose harvest is large Canadas. We also average taking 14 species of ducks per season of both puddler's and divers. At GooseBusters we believe you owe it to yourself to come see for yourself why 90% of our annual clientele consists of repeat business. |

A Typical Day:
I'll be scouting the night before our hunt. As soon as I'm done with the evening scout I'll be giving you a call to let you know when and where we'll be meeting for the hunt. I'll fill you in on what I have lined up for the hunt whether it be ducks, geese or a combo hunt. After meeting in the morning at the designated location, we'll be driving out to the spot where everything will be completely set up. We'll have a quick safety chat and go through a couple mock shooting scenario's so when the birds do come, everyone will have some experience coming out of the blinds to shoot. Then the hunt begins. After the hunt we'll be posing for some photo's with our birds. We usually all chip in to pick up the spread and then head into town to relive the hunt over a hot breakfast.
|
ALSO OFFERING: Grain Field Pigeon Hunting
These hunts take place in late July through all of August. As soon as the grain fields start coming out, the pigeons start feeding in them heavily offering some fast and furious gunning. I encourage each hunter to bring at least 100 rounds of ammo on each hunt. There are no license requirements, No daily or possession limits, unplugged shotguns are allowed. This is a great way to get youngsters into the sport.
|
|
Lodging And Meals:
Each hunter will be responsible for their own lodging and meals. Most hunters that are from the Twin City area elect to drive directly from their residence in the morning. However those coming in from out of the area will be given several comfortable motel options that are in close proximity to the hunting area, by Phil to choose from. After the morning hunt is over your group is welcomed to join Phil for a hot breakfast at a local breakfast favorite. |
