 | FLYWAY OUTFITTERS Southern Ontarios Finest Waterfowl Hunting |
|
|
| Established in 1994 Southern Ontario Flyway Outfitters has been providing hunters with amazing waterfowling adventures for over 13 years. We lease over 50 farms and manage 400 private acres just for waterfowl, as well as 100 aces of flooded timber and swamps. Many of our properties border large refuge areas which hold local birds, and later in the season tens of thousands of migrating waterfowl. The areas we hunt host 650,000 migrating waterfowl each fall. You will be hunting a unique area with the mighty Niagara River and Lakes Erie and Ontario, which never freeze and hold birds all year. All of our properties are hunted on a rotational basis as to not over pressure the birds. We are always hunting different populations to ensure our guests fresh birds. |

Our early goose season opens up in the beginning of September and runs until January. We estimate to have 60,000 local Canada geese in our area of southern Ontario. Migrating geese typically begin showing up in large numbers come mid October and right stay through December- we see new birds on a daily basis. Ducks are much the same as geese, the difference is the species you will be getting will depend totally on the migration. Woodies and teal as well as a few mallards make up the first part of the season. With pintails, blacks, mallards and gadwalls making up the last part of the season. Snow geese are still not a common sight for us although we do decoy a few flocks every season and are seeing more and more every year.
As the birds change fields so must we, being mobile is what counts. Laydown blinds and large effective decoy spreads allow us to be successful all season long. We also use stationary blinds during our late season hunts. The birds seem to use the same fields year after year and as January and February can be cold its nice to be in a warm blind, as late season hunting is an all day event. Haybale blinds are also used early in the season. Hedgerows and ditches are used early and as the season wears on we change tactics to laydown blinds. On occasion pits are dug the night before a hunt. In some locations we also have farmers that leave blocks of standing corn standing for our guests. |

On all of our hunts we only shoot decoying birds. This means 30 yards or less, to us there is nothing like 20 honkers feet down wings cupped and trying to land in your face.
Guests are normally picked up one hour before the hunt, depending on how far the hunt location will take place for the day. Hunters may be picked up earlier or may choose to drive themselves to the field if they would like to help set the decoys with the guide for the mornings hunt. Our ability to travel with the birds greatly increases our success rate. Migrating waterfowl will often jump from one refuge to another. With so much property we can follow the birds just about anywhere.
We offer a wide variety of hunting situations. One morning you may find yourself in a large grain field waiting for geese, or in a flooded timber marsh leaning against a tree waiting for mallards to funnel in from above. The next day you may be set up on a jagged rock shoreline, on the great lakes watching strings of divers bust into the decoys. For 2008 we planning on adding layout boat shooting in which we will be targeting scaup, canvasbacks, redheads, and trophy sea ducks on the Niagara river.

No over crowding is our policy. We hunt groups of 2 - 4 hunters per hunt. Exceptions are made if a larger group does not want to be separated. These groups are often given two guides as well. If you plan on coming by yourself you will be put into a group with other guests. Arrangements can be made if you want to hunt on your own with a guide. Dogs are welcome as long as they are trained and they are allowed at the hotel and cottage. Visiting hunters may choose to stay at a hotel in town (Comfort Inn). We have a corporate account in which are guests receive a decent rate. Guests may also choose to stay in our four bedroom cottage on the shore of Lake Erie with all the comforts of home. All active and retired serviceman veterans receive a 15% discount from any of our hunt packages. |
