| Reports From The Field: |
| Scott Robinson the Snow Goose Specialist (269-760-6219) guides around the Squaw Creek NWR. He stated that the weekend of March 20th, the hunting pretty much died off for good. Scott elected to cancel the remaining hunts for the year and wrap it up. He stated that there were still some geese in the area the last week of March but not what he would consider huntable numbers. Scott said that overall this year was tough but his hunters were consistant throughout the season. Scott said they had 3 days where his hunters shot 70+ geese but for the most part they were averaging about 30 35 geese a day. Scott stated that what he felt hurt NW Missouri the most this year was the lack of sun. He said they only had about 2 or 3 days where there was any sun at all and they could hear the geese flying over above the clouds without stopping. Scott said overall it was a tough year of hunting but they made the best of it. |

| Reports From The Field: |
JJ Randolph of Wyo-Braska Waterfowl, (435-901-3825) guides out of SE Nebraska in the rainwater basin. JJ stated that they finally wrapped up the season on Sunday March 21 at which point 2 hunters took 25 geese. After that they did not see another goose for the following 3 days of getting picked up for the year. JJ stated that the week prior to that they did not have the big concentrations of geese in the area but all the geese they saw decoyed very well and they were averaging 30 40 geese per day for about a 10 day stretch at the end. JJ feels confident that the migration is over in the SE Nebraska area for the year now.
Kalend McCurdy of Midwest Migrators stated that the weekend of March 20 - 21 he wrapped up his season for the year as well. Kalend stated that he did do a final drive through the northern edge of the rainwater basin on Thursday March 25th and saw about 10,000 15,000 light geese still in the area. He also noted that although the big numbers of light geese were not in the area the past week they still had good hunting on the smaller flocks and overall Kalend felt that had a very productive but considerably shorter season this spring. |

| Across The State: |
| Smaller flocks of light geese have been reported scattered across the state but no traditional "huntable numbers" of geese are remaining left in South Dakota at this point. |
| Sand Lake N.W.R. Activity: |
| Stated that as of April 8, 2010 they have not seen much for any light geese in, or around the refuge this past week. They feel that the light goose spring season is pretty much over for the year in South Dakota but there still are most likely some small scattered flocks around the northern region of the state if one were to look hard enough. |
| Reports From The Field: |
Phil Schmidt of Lone Drake Waterfowl Outfitters stated that they wrapped up their season about 10 days ago. He had been hunting in north central South Dakota this past week and over the Easter weekend they had excellent hunting. By the end of the week Phil stated that although there were still huntable numbers of small flocks (500 2,000) juvenile light geese in the northern region of the state however they were very sparse. At that point Phil still felt that there were a few huntable flocks left in the state but it has been 10 days since Phil wrapped up the season. did note that those remaining flocks are decoying very well and offering some nice decoying hunts. He stated that overall the season was tougher than normal but the did have consistent success in South Dakota but the had to work harder than normal to keep on the birds.
Jason Lesmeister of Last Frontier Snow Goose Safaris (907-351-3036) was based out of Lake Thompson, SD. Jason stated that he wrapped up his season two weeks ago. At that point Jason stated they were focusing on small flocks of juvenile birds and the hunting was tough as they were not consistently feeding on a patternable basis. Jason felt that there were still probably enough light geese to hunt about 80 miles west of the Lake Thompson area when he left but it would have been a gamble to bring hunters out past April 8th. Overall Jason felt that is was a tougher year than normal and the birds decoyed well later on but it was not as good as last year. |
North Dakota Spring Snow Goose Report
|
| Weekend Weather Conditions: |
Highs: In north central North Dakota expect high temps will be in the upper 50s to low 60s through the weekend.
Lows: Low temps will be in the upper 20s, climbing to the upper 30s through the weekend.
Precipitation: Skies will be clear and sunny through the weekend with a few cloudy moving in Sunday afternoon. |
| Across The State: |
Across the state there have been no major concentrations of light geese reported in over 2 weeks now. At this point there are small flocks scattered throughout the state but hunters will have to scout hard to find flocks big enough to hunt. Although for those willing to put the effort in, the young birds bringing up the tail end of the migration should decoy well.
Tewaukon NWR: Reported that as on Thursday April 1, 2010 they are all out of geese. They stated that they had two really good days of light goose migration during the middle of last week and since then they have not had hardly any snow geese in the immediate area at all this week. They have reportes of most of the snow geese staging from Devils lake and up into Canada now. |
| Devils Lake Area Activity: |
| Reported that as of April 8, 2010, most all of the snow geese have moved through the area, about 2 weeks to 10 days ago. They stated that they have had beautiful weather for this time of year all week and they have not seen more than a few smaller flocks of light geese in the area this past week. They stated that hunters thinking of coming up this weekend are pushing their luck but if they scout hard enough there are still most likely huntable flocks of snow geese around somewhere. |
| Reports From The Field: |
Matt Kostka of Top Gun Guide Service (507-696-0208) has been hunting North Central North Dakota for the past two weeks. Matt said that last week they had a couple very good days and there were still huntable numbers of snow geese scattered throughout the north central region however they did elect to wrap it up for the year as of the weekend of April 17th.
Ryan Marsh of RJM Guiding, guides out of central Saskatchewan. Ryan stated that this past week they have had good numbers of light geese in central Saskatchewan and the hunting has been very good but they have been battling some crazy weather. Ryan said they have been seeing a lot of Ross geese mixed in with good numbers of adult snows and blues at this point. |
